Research Background

GHK-Cu (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine copper complex) is a copper-binding tripeptide found naturally in human plasma. It has attracted scientific interest for its potential involvement in tissue remodelling, extracellular matrix regulation and cellular signalling.

Laboratory research has investigated GHK-Cu in relation to collagen synthesis, the activity of enzymes involved in extracellular matrix remodelling and the expression of genes associated with tissue biology. These findings have contributed to interest in its possible role in skin structure and repair-related biological processes.

Human research involving topical cosmetic formulations containing GHK-Cu or related copper peptides has explored changes in skin appearance and characteristics associated with skin ageing. However, the evidence is limited, and results from topical formulations cannot automatically be attributed to isolated GHK-Cu or other formulations.

Further controlled human studies are needed to establish the extent of any clinical benefits, appropriate applications and long-term safety. Laboratory findings concerning collagen-related pathways should not be interpreted as proof that every GHK-Cu product increases collagen production in humans.
